But I soon realised that those sources were very limited. Whilst the books are not limited, my time to read through a proliferation of books is actually limited. So I eventually resorted to child development articles to educate myself on children's development. Paying close attention to all the various child development theories, child development stages and child development milestones.
I have since been introduced to a number of child development theories of which some are listed below:
- Psychoanalytic Child Development Theories of Sigmund Freud and Erik Erikson
- Cognitive Child Development Theories
- Behavioural Child Development Theories
- Social Child Development Theories
No longer do I "just have to" follow the non-expert theories of immediate family and friends. I can now make my own informed decisions on which strategies to follow in my childrens development.
And I feel comfortable in explaining those decisions and defending my actions. Whilst this may not be necessary, I feel that it also contributes to the knowledge of those non-experts and to the development of their children.
Reading all those child development articles have certainly given me confidence to:
- Facilitate the effective development of my children.
- Teach others in developing their children.
- Proving to others that I actually know what I am doing.
